Types of Permits
The Town of Fairplay has three different permit types, each with their own application method, Easy Permits, Building Permits and Right of Way/Excavation Permits.
Easy Permits
Easy permits are for small projects that are primarily a like for like replacement of an item as part of building lifetime maintenance. The following list is a complete list of all items that are eligible for an easy permit. For items not on this list, please complete a building permit application lower on this page. These permits do not require any plans, and all compliance will be determined with the field inspections. For questions, please email building [at] fairplayco.us
- Fences, when not exempt from permit
- Siding Replacement
- Signs-No Foundation
- Residential air conditioners or evaporative coolers
- Residential mechanical or building heating devices
- Residential water heaters with same fuel source and unit type (tank vs tankless)
- Window replacement
To apply for an Easy Permit, please follow this link to a Google Forms application, or apply in person at Town Hall.
Building Permits
Building permits are for the alteration, demolition, construction, enlargement, movement, repair, removal or replacement of any building or structure.
Any items that are not in the list above for an Easy Permit, and not Exempt from permit (document at bottom of page), requires a Building Permit. This includes reroofing, decks and solar power generation equipment.
To apply for a building permit to include electrical and plumbing only permits, please complete the form that can be found at the bottom of this page and submit to the Email address found on the form, or drop off at Town Hall.
The Town of Fairplay does not issue sub-permits for Electrical, Plumbing or Mechanical. The Town issues one permit to the applicant for the entire project.
Fees will be calculated upon form submission.
For projects located in the Town Center Overlay, A Certificate of Appropriateness is required before a permit can be issued for any extensive exterior alterations or new construction.
Right of Way/Excavation Permits
Right of Way/Excavation Permits are issued by the Public Works Department for any work to be completed within the right of way areas of the Town or when connecting to Town Water or Sewer lines. The application can be found on the bottom of this page.
Fire Department Permits
The local Fire Department issues permits when required by the Fire Code. A Fire Department Permit is typically required for all Commercial projects.
